Other Information

Prior entering Parliament on a casual vacancy, Kate McPhee was a governance consultant and trainer supporting small not-for-profit organisations and volunteer led boards across South Australia. In 1997 she wrote Just a Tick – A Best Practice Guide for Committees and Boards of Management. (The third edition was published in 2025).

She wrote and facilitated both accredited and non-accredited training programs on governance, strategic planning, effective meetings, policies and procedures and public speaking. Her clients include community clubs, local councils, housing co-operatives, disability and family support services and peak bodies across South Australia.

Whilst in Parliament Kate was the Democrats' Spokesperson for Aboriginal Affairs, Ageing, Child Protection, Children's Services, Disability Services, Equal Opportunity, Education, Further Education & Training, Gambling, Housing, Local Government, Recreation & Sport, Refugees, Social Justice, Tourism, Volunteers and Youth.

She now operates Liquorice Allsorts Consulting and is the Principal Industry Consultant for Clubs SA's Club Development Program. Kate continues to serve her community through a range of voluntary roles, including as an Approved Community Visitor and as the Secretary of the Parliament of South Australia Former Members Association.
