The following conditions must be strictly adhered to by persons who obtain approval for the use of Parliament House steps for a demonstration.
Approval for any demonstration is conditional upon receipt of written acceptance by the organiser/s of the terms listed below. (One copy of this form should be signed and returned to the Joint Presiding Officers, before the demonstration, and another be retained for organiser/s reference.)
Applications should be made a minimum of 4 business days in advance (per the Public Assemblies Act, 1972).
1. The organiser is responsible for ensuring the demonstration is conducted in a safe and orderly manner.
2. Directions from Parliament House Staff, Police Security Officers and Police Officers must be obeyed.
3. The façade of Parliament House must not be damaged or defaced, nor are banners, posters or placards to be attached to the building in anyway. Any structures, displays or materials that are deemed unsafe by Parliament House Staff, Police Security Officers or Police Officers must be removed. You maybe held liable for damages.
4. Under no circumstances are candles or naked flames to be used.
5. A public address system is permitted however the organiser is responsible for supplying and managing their own power source. Please note that generators must not be placed in the vicinity of air vents and must be moved if directed.
6. Vehicle parking permits will not be provided, however a grace period for unloading and loading of vehicles is allowed. Fines may be issued if unauthorised vehicles are parked in the permit zones.
7. If your demonstration has a high attendance, a clear pathway to access Centre Hall should be maintained wherever possible.
8. You are responsible for ensuring that all materials and rubbish are removed from the precinct upon completion of the demonstration.
